Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday appointed former Defense Minister Rustem Umerov as secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), the presidential press service said.
Umerov will replace Oleksandr Lytvynenko, who had served as the head of the agency since March 2024.
In a statement on Telegram, Zelensky said that a key priority for the new NSDC chief would be maintaining close cooperation with partners on arms supplies.
“We must fully implement every agreement with our partners regarding the supply of weapons, as well as new special agreements on joint production and the construction of factories on the territory of our partners,” said Zelensky.
Another key responsibility would be to revive the negotiation track and accelerate the full implementation of the agreements reached between Ukraine and Russia in Istanbul, Türkiye, last month. Enditem
