The government has allocated an amount of 150 million Ghana cedis or 13.7 million U. S. dollars to the country’s male senior football national team, the Black Stars in 2026, finance minister Cassiel Ato Forson announced late Thursday.
Presenting the 2026 budget statement and economic policy of the government of Ghana for the 2026 financial year to the country’s Parliament, Forson said the money is to enable the Black Stars to participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“Mr. Speaker, sports remain one of Ghana’s greatest unifying forces and a powerful driver of youth development, community pride, and national identity. An amount of 150 million Ghana cedis has been allocated for the Black Stars to participate in the World Cup,” said the finance minister.
Ghana has qualified to participate in the next edition of the FIFA World Cup to be hosted by U.S.A., Canada and Mexico.
The Black Stars have made four appearances so far with the best performance being exiting at the quarterfinal stage in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Enditem
