Mahama meets CSOs to discuss ‘galamsey’ on Oct. 3

President John Dramani Mahama is set to meet with civil society organisations (CSOs) on Friday, October 3, 2025, to discuss the issue of illegal mining (galamsey).

The meeting, according to the presidency, is scheduled to begin at 12:00 noon at the Jubilee House, the seat of government.

The aim is to have an open, frank, and constructive dialogue between the government and civil society on the menace of illegal mining.

Invitations have been extended to several key CSOs, faith-based organisations, academic and advocacy groups, including the Catholic Bishops Conference, Christian Council, Ghana Bar Association, IMANI Ghana, Arocha Ghana, among several others.

Illegal mining, which has been declared a national security threat, has been an issue around the Mahama administration, with many calling for a state of emergency to be declared in galamsey communities.

The president, in his encounter with the media last month, observed that declaring a state of emergency is not necessary now. Enditem
