Ghana’s monthly indicator of economic growth (MIEG) stood at 4.5 percent year on year in July, compared with 8.3 percent a year earlier, the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) said Thursday.
Government Statistician Alhassan Iddrisu said at a press briefing that the services sector maintained a strong performance, recording 6.4 percent growth year on year in July, up from 4.5 percent in the same period last year.
“The agriculture sector recorded a significant rebound, recording a growth of 8 percent, compared with 2.4 percent in July 2024,” Iddrisu added.
He pointed out that the performance of the agriculture sector was a reflection of the high output of crops and livestock, which contributed 37.1 percent to the entire MIEG for July.
Against the trend, industry slowed sharply, recording a paltry 0.1 percent growth in July, down from 17.7 percent a year earlier.
MIEG, a newly launched index, serves as a high-frequency measure of economic performance, providing an early signal about the direction of the economy, the GSS said. Enditem
