The Minority Caucus has expressed worry over the high court ruling on the 2024 Kpandai parliamentary election results, according to a statement released here.
In a statement signed by Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the process leading to and after the election was transparent and reflected the will of the people.
The minority insists the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Matthew Nyindam, won the seat with a margin of 3,734 votes.
“The Minority Caucus wishes to clarify the facts surrounding the 2024 parliamentary election in the Kpandai Constituency and recent developments that have followed. The records show a transparent process, a credible declaration, and a result that reflected the will of the people,” read the statement.
The Minority observed that following the declaration of the presidential results, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, arrived at the collation center with supporters, attempting to disrupt proceedings and damage ballot boxes, which created security risks.
According to the NPP, the Electoral Commission moved the final declaration to its regional office in Tamale, where Mr. Nyindam was declared the winner with 27,947 votes against 24,213 for Mr. Wakpal.
According to the statement, the NDC candidate later filed a court challenge citing his absence from Tamale and minor clerical errors in 41 polling stations.
The NPP minority argued that even if all disputed votes, around 500, had been awarded to Mr. Wakpal, he would still have lost the election by over 3,000 votes. Enditem
