Legendary Ghanaian gospel musician Yaw Sarpong is reported dead after a short illness, according to sources on Tuesday.
He is reported to have passed away at Emena Hospital in Kumasi, where he was receiving medical treatment.
Yaw Sarpong was a pioneer of Ghanaian gospel music and led the Asomafo Gospel Band to produce timeless classics, earning him immense respect in the Christian community and music industry. Many younger gospel artistes cite him as a major influence.
His death comes barely a month after the passing of Maame Tiwa, a key member of the Asomafo group, leaving the gospel music fraternity in mourning. Yaw Sarpong received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards for his contributions to gospel music. Enditem
