The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed Mr. Mahdi Gibrill as the Acting Director of Elections and Information Technology (IT) of the party, effective immediately, according to a letter by the party on Thursday.

According to Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the party change was confirmed in an official party letter dated January 29, 2026, signed by the NDC General Secretary, confirmed that the appointment was reportedly agreed upon at a Functional Executive Committee (FEC) meeting earlier in January.

In his new role, Mahdi Gibrill is expected to lead the party’s election management, strategy, data systems, and IT functions — key components of the NDC’s campaign apparatus.

This appointment effectively replaces Dr. Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer’s previous role as Director of Elections/IT within the NDC.

Tanko Computer had been serving in senior elections leadership for the party, including as Deputy National Director of Elections and IT, before taking on a government role as acting CEO of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) in February 2025.

While party structures sometimes retain former directors in advisory or deputy capacities, the announcement positions Mahdi Gibrill at the helm of the elections/IT directorate for now. Enditem
