Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, on Saturday expressed gratitude to Allah, his supporters, and fellow contestants after winning the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for the Ayawaso East Constituency.
Speaking moments after the declaration of results, Baba Jamal described the campaign period as demanding and emotionally taxing for himself, his family, and his supporters.
Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria said the victory was by the grace of Allah and thanked God for seeing him through what he termed a very hectic and difficult process.
He extended appreciation to the presidency, members of the media, ministers, parliamentarians, his constituents, and especially his campaign team, whom he credited for running an intensive campaign within a short two-week period.
Baba Jamal also congratulated his fellow aspirants, stressing that the outcome was not a personal victory but one for the entire party.
According to him, internal party elections are competitive by nature and must produce a winner. He invited all the contestants to join him in uniting the party and working together to secure victory for the NDC in the upcoming by-election. He noted that the contest had brought out the best in him and would ultimately strengthen his efforts to retain the seat for the party.
Baba Jamal assured party members and constituents that his doors remain open to everyone, including those who contested against him, and thanked his family for enduring what he described as weeks of neglect during the campaign period.
He concluded by praying for blessings and expressing optimism about working with supporters to bring development to Ayawaso East.
Baba Jamal won the primary with 431 votes, narrowly beating Hajia Amina Adam, who polled 399 votes. Mohammed Ramme secured 88 votes, Dr Yakubu Azindow had 45 votes, while Mohammed Najib received 1 vote. The closely contested primary drew significant public attention, particularly following earlier debates about campaign conduct.
With the primary now concluded, Baba Jamal will lead the NDC into the Ayawaso East by-election as the party seeks to retain the seat. Enditem
