Bus collision kills 8, 21 injured on Elubo-Takoradi highway

At least eight (8) people have died following a collision between two passenger buses at Azuletti, near Samenye, along the Elubo-Takoradi Highway, with 21 passengers rescued from the wreckage, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed.

The accident occurred on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at about 7:26 p.m., when an Ivorian-registered bus travelling towards Benin rammed into the rear of a parked Burkinabè passenger bus.

According to the GNFS, the parked vehicle had obstructed one lane of the highway, resulting in the collision. Seven people were pronounced dead at the scene, while another died later at the hospital.

Preliminary investigations suggest that speeding may have contributed to the crash.

The 21 rescued passengers who sustained injuries were transported to the nearest hospital for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were handed over to the police.
