By Francis Kobena Tandoh

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday announced a detailed timeline and guidelines for its upcoming internal elections following the successful presidential primaries last month, which elected former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s headquarters, General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, outlined the roadmap for membership registration and the conduct of elections from the polling station to the constituency level.

According to him, the voting process at the constituency level will commence on April 20, 2026.

“The process of registration of members will start from March 1 to 31, 2026. The data entry of members who have been registered will be between April 1 and April 10, 2026. After the data entry, there will be verification of its members from April 14 to 16, 2026,” he stated.

Mr. Frimpong said internal elections will commence at the polling station level, with nominations opening and closing between April 20 and April 24. Vetting of aspirants will take place from April 25 to April 30, while appeals will be received from May 1 to May 4.

“The notice of poll will be from May 6 to May 9, 2026. The elections of the polling station executives will be from May 10 to 16, 2026,” he added.

The NPP General Secretary observed that data entry and validation for the polling station executives’ album will occur from April 17 to April 21.

The party will then proceed to the electoral area executive elections. Nominations will open and close from May 23 to May 25, with vetting scheduled from May 26 to May 31.

Appeals will be handled from June 1 to June 4, while notices of poll will be issued between June 5 and June 8. Elections for electoral area executives are slated for June 10 to June 15, with data entry and validation of results from June 16 to June 20.

“In all these activities, the responsible office will be the constituency executive committee and the regional steering committee, with oversight responsibility by the national secretariat,” he explained.

For constituency executive elections, nominations will open and close from June 22 to June 24. Vetting will take place from June 25 to June 27, while appeals will be received from June 28 to June 30.

Notices of poll will be issued from July 2 to July 5, and elections of constituency officers will be conducted from July 11 to July 12. Data entry of the constituency album will follow from July 13 to July 26, 2026.

The party leadership expressed confidence that the outlined processes will ensure transparency, fairness and broad participation in its internal democratic exercise. Enditem
