Baba Jamal to be sworn in as Ayawaso East MP today

Former High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Baba Jamal is expected to be sworn in today (Tuesday, March 10, 2026) as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ayawaso East Constituency in Ghana, according to a Facebook post.

The ceremony will take place in the Chamber of Ghana’s Parliament and will be administered by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

In his Facebook post, Baba Jamal expressed his readiness to work with his constituents to build a build a brighter future for the people.

“Indeed Allah’s ways are perfect. I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to serve, and I look forward to working together with you to build a brighter and greater future for the Ayawaso East Constituency,” read the post.

Baba Jamal won the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election on March 3, 2026 on the ticket of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He secured 10,884 votes, defeating Yusif Ali Baba of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who got 4,009 votes.

After the oath, the former High Commissioner will officially take his seat in Ghana’s Parliament and start representing Ayawaso East.

The Ayawaso East by-election was held to fill the vacancy left after the death of the previous MP, Ahmed Nasser Toure on January 4 this year. Enditem
