The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) announced on Friday that electricity and water tariffs in Ghana will decrease starting April 1, 2026.
According to the PURC, electricity will see an average of 4.81 percent reduction while water will also go down on an average 3.06 percent.
The downward review of the utility tariffs, which takes effect from April 1, 2026, forms part of PURC’s quarterly tariff review system.
The tariff review means residential electricity users will see small reductions depending on consumption levels.
High-voltage commercial and industrial users will get larger reductions of over 15 percent.
Lifeline water customers (0–5 m³) will pay 593.49 GHp per m³, down from 612.25 GHp per m³.
The commission says the decrease is due to improvements in key economic factors such as a stronger Ghana cedi against the US dollar, lower inflation compared to the previous quarter and changes in fuel costs and electricity generation mix.
The PURC has also introduced Ghana’s first commercial tariff for electric vehicle (EV) charging to support the country’s shift to green energy. Enditem
