Kotoko beat Nations FC 3-0 to climb third on league log

After an unimpressive run in recent times, Asante Kotoko returned to winning ways with an emphatic 3-0 win over Nations FC in matchday 26 of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday.

The Porcupines soaked the pressure from local rivals Nations FC and took the lead in the 23rd minute of the first half after lead striker Albert Amoah rose past everyone to head into the net a well delivered cross from Emmanuel Kotei.

Despite end-to-end actions, the two sides failed to put the ball behind the post ending the first half 1-0 in favour of the hosts.

Back from the break, the away side played delectable football with Kotoko coming in a few times to make incursions at goal.

Kotoko coach Prince Yaw Owusu made some substitutions with about 15 minutes to full time which changed the complexity of the game.

The home team was awarded a penalty in the 80 minute and captain Samba O’Neil expertly converted to give Kotoko a 2-0 lead.

Deep into full time, Morfing Donzo, who was among those who came onto the pitch with few minutes to end the match was also fouled in the penalty area of the hosts and the Guinean stepped up to score Kokoko’s third and final goal of the day.

The victory thus lifts Kotoko to third place on the league log, six points behind leaders Bibiani Gold Stars boosting their hopes of mounting a late challenge to the league title with some eight matches to end the season.

Nations FC however drops to 11th place and will return home to play against Berekum Chelsea while Kotoko travel to play Aduana FC in matchday 27. Enditem
