Carlos Queiroz has been appointed as head coach for Ghana’s senior male football national team, the Black Stars, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed late Monday.
The former Read Madrid, Manchester United, Portugal, and Iran coach will lead Ghana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the U.S.A., Canada, and Mexico.
He replaces Otto Addo who was relieved of the job early this month after unimpressive results against Austria and Germany.
Queiroz boasts of an extensive pedigree in world football as he led South Africa qualify for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, guided Portugal to the knockout phase in the 2010 World Cup, and took charge of Iran at the 2014 and 2018 World Cup tournaments.
He has also had coaching stints with Egypt, Oman, Japan and Qatar and is expected to commence work immediately with 10 weeks to the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana, making a fifth appearance at the World Cup, has been paired in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. Enditem
