The Second Meeting of the Second Session of Ghana’s Ninth Parliament reconvenes on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Parliament House in Accra, according to Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin in a notice recently.
The resumption is in line with Order 58 of Parliament’s Standing Orders.
Lawmakers are expected to continue legislative business after the House adjourned on March 27 for the Easter break.
Key issues likely to dominate proceedings include consideration of pending bills and legislative instruments. The House is expected to continue work on pending bills, regulations, and legislative instruments carried over from the previous meeting. These include the Road Traffic Regulations, 2026, and the National Identity Register (Amendment) Regulations, 2026, and deliberate on contractual agreements, mining lease agreements, and international or financial agreements requiring parliamentary approval.
The MPs are likely to scrutinize government expenditure, budget performance reports, and economic policies amid ongoing concerns vis-à-vis fuel prices, taxation, and IMF-supported reforms; intensify oversight responsibilities by examining reports from ministries, state institutions, and the Auditor-General; and feature debates on governance, education, mining, transport regulation, energy, employment, and other national development matters.
Also, the various committees of Parliament are expected to present reports on referrals made during the previous meeting, including government policy papers and regulatory instruments awaiting approval, as well as some ministers are expected to appear before the House to answer questions from MPs on government programs and public concerns.
