Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Monday that Iran, Russia and the world’s other independent countries do not accept unilateralism and attempts by some states to impose their will on others.
During a meeting with visiting Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev in Tehran, Pezeshkian criticized the use of unilateral policies, pressure and sanctions by some countries to force independent states to surrender, according to a statement published on the website of his office.
He said the expansion of scientific, industrial and economic cooperation among independent states could help offset unilateral pressure and sanctions and pave the way for a more just international order.
Pezeshkian also called for accelerating the implementation of strategic agreements between Iran and Russia, voicing his country’s readiness to remove obstacles to the joint projects’ implementation.
Describing Russia as Iran’s “strategic partner and reliable friend,” he said the two countries have broad potential for cooperation in such fields as energy, oil, gas, petrochemical, industry and trade, noting that Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has emphasized the importance of strengthening relations with Russia.
Tsivilev expressed Moscow’s determination to implement joint projects with Iran. He also praised Iran for adopting independent positions and resisting foreign pressure.
Iran and Russia, both under U.S. sanctions, have in recent years expanded their political and economic relations to counter U.S. restrictions. Enditem
