At least 30 people, including eight children, are feared dead and several others injured after armed attackers stormed Naridon village in Nigeria’s Kaduna State, burning homes and forcing residents to flee.
Footage captured on Tuesday shows police and other security personnel arriving in the village, inspecting burned homes and meeting grieving residents.
“29 people were killed. The attackers came carrying fire and set houses in the village ablaze,” said survivor Emmanuel Danjuma.
Danjuma said the attackers entered the village from different directions before torching homes, adding, “They even sat in a corner there to eat.”
“My family, my friends and my sisters were killed – Deborah, Yusuf, James, Yokak, and four other people. They all died,” Danjuma claimed.
Community youth leader Ishaya Dawa appealed for urgent government intervention.
“The people who attacked us came as a group. They killed about 30 innocent people, while seven others were injured,” Dawa said.
“I need help because of what is happening to my village and this community. I am pleading with the government,” he urged.
The attack took place late on Sunday when armed men opened fire on residents, set houses ablaze and fled before security forces arrived the following morning. No group has claimed responsibility.
Northwestern and north-central Nigeria have faced repeated attacks by armed groups in recent years, leaving hundreds dead and thousands displaced.
