Ghana’s female senior football national team, the Black Queens, have been drawn alongside Ecuador, Uzbekistan, and Papua New Guinea in the preliminary phase of the FIFA Women’s World Cup play-off, according to a draw by the world football governing body on Thursday.
The Black Queens, who will be competing in the preliminary phase of the FIFA Women’s World Cup play-off, will open their campaign against Ecuador before taking on Uzbekistan and wrapping up against Papua New Guinea in their final match.
Ghana kept the 2027 World Cup dream alive by beating western neighbors, Cote d’Ivoire 2-1 early this month to secure a place in the play-off after exiting at the quarterfinal of the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The preliminary phase of the FIFA Women’s World Cup play-off will take place during the international window between November 24 and December 5 2026.
In the preliminary phase, each team will play a total of three matches, with those finishing first and second overall advancing to the final phase scheduled to be played between February and March 2027.
The Black Queens last qualified for the FIFA World Cup in 2007, hosted by China, and the West Africans have since failed to secure qualification for the biggest women’s football tournament. Enditem
