Some communities in the Greater Accra Region are expected to experience power interruptions on Sunday, August 23, 2026, according to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in a statement.

According to the statement, the interruption in power supply is to enable the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to undertake emergency works to replace a damaged tower on the  on the Tema -Achimota 161 kV transmission tower line at Ashaiman.

The works follow an earlier repair exercise on August 16 that did not fully complete the tower replacement.

GRIDCo says the additional work is necessary to restore the integrity, reliability and safety of the transmission line.

The planned interruption is expected to run from 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., a period of about 15 hours. Affected communities include parts of Nima, Kanda, Kokomlemle, Circle, Madina, Okponglo, Cantonment, Osu, James Town, Mamprobi, Chorkor, Kaneshie, North Industrial Area, Adabraka, Ridge, Tesano, Alajo, Asylum Down, Labone and Teshie, among others.

GRIDCo emphasized it is working with the Electricity Company of Ghana to manage the interruption and has appealed to affected customers to make the necessary arrangements ahead of the exercise.

The Electricity Company of Ghana expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to customers. Enditem
