My goal is to rescue Abia people from poor governance — Doris Ogala

Nollywood actress and politician Doris Ogala says she’s running for governor of Abia State in 2027 to “rescue” residents from hardship and poor governance.

Speaking in an interview with media personality Nedu Wazobia, Ogala said the state needs urgent intervention, citing unstable electricity and decaying infrastructure as top concerns. “My people are really suffering. Abia needs urgent attention,” she stated.

The actress, who is contesting under the African Action Congress, AAC, identified lack of 24-hour power supply as one of the biggest problems affecting businesses and daily life in the state.

She also drew on her past experience in government, revealing she previously served as Special Adviser on Creative Arts, Culture and Tourism in the last administration.

Ogala said her motivation for politics goes beyond holding office. “My interest in politics is not about occupying a political office but about making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people,” she said.

The governorship hopeful also criticized the current administration, questioning claims around some projects in the state. According to her, several developments being credited to the present government actually started under the previous administration.

With focus on electricity, infrastructure, and residents’ welfare, Ogala expressed confidence she can win the 2027 election and deliver a better quality of life for Abians. “I want to rescue Abia. My people are really suffering,” she reiterated. Enditem
