At least 50 members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have picked nomination forms to contest various national executive positions ahead of the party’s national officers’ elections, according Evans Nimako, Director of Elections and Research for the party.

The nomination process, which opened on August 17, 2026, was initially scheduled to close on August 22, with aspirants required to complete the necessary procedures and pay the prescribed filing fees.

The positions include National Chairman, General Secretary, First and Second Vice Chairmen, National Organiser, National Treasurer, National Communications Director, National Youth Organiser, National Women’s Organiser and Nasara Coordinator.

All prospective candidates are expected to begin with the submission of the forms to the party’s headquarters from Aug. 23 to Aug. 29.

The development has intensified competition within the NPP as several prominent party figures seek to occupy key leadership positions and help reposition the party ahead of the 2028 general election.

Among those who have entered the chairmanship race include incarcerated Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, whose campaign team picked his nomination forms while he is serving a prison sentence.

Former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, former National Chairman Paul Afoko as well as former General Secretary John Boadu are all gunning for the national chairmanship position.

The NPP is expected to vet the aspirants before the elections, with the party’s national executive elections scheduled for October 3, 2026, according to the latest reports. Enditem
