The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cleared all 47 aspirants to contest its 2026 national officers’ elections, according to a statement on Sunday.
The statement, signed by Frederick Opare-Ansah, Chairman of the National Officers Elections Committee (NEOC), said all the aspirants who appeared before the committee are suitable and eligible to contest for the various positions for which they filed.
“NEOC is pleased to announce that the Vetting Committee has recommended that all forty-seven (47) aspirants who appeared before it are suitable and eligible to contest for the respective positions for which they filed their nominations,” read the statement.
“Accordingly, all 47 aspirants have been cleared to contest, subject to the processes provided under the applicable rules governing the elections,” it added.
In all, the 47 aspirants are contesting nine national executive positions.
The NEOC held a vetting exercise from August 31 to September 3, 2026.
The distribution of the cleared aspirants across the nine positions is as follows:
The National Vice-Chairperson race has the highest number, with 13 aspirants.
8 aspirants are contesting the National Organiser.
6 are contesting National Youth Organiser.
5 are contesting the National Nasara (Zongo) Organiser.
4 each are contesting National Chairman, General Secretary, and National Treasurer.
2 are contesting the National Women’s Organizer position while
1 person is contesting the National Communications Director position.
The party, according to the Committee, is scheduled to conduct balloting for positions on the ballot paper on September 9, 2026, at its headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra.
The 47 candidates are now set for the next stage of the NPP’s internal elections as the party prepares to select its national leadership ahead of the 2028 general election. Enditem
