Manhyia South MP to be brought before weekend court – EOCO

By Francis Kobena Tandoh

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) says it is working with the Attorney-General’s Office to bring Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South before a weekend court, citing constitutional timelines and bail procedures, according to a statement late Friday.

The MP surrendered to EOCO on October 1 at about 10 a.m., as part of investigations into a GH¢2.2 million payment made to his former law firm for legal services in a matter involving SIC Life.

According to the ECOO, Baffour Awuah has been cooperating with investigators as it continued with the necessary investigative, procedural and operational processes.

EOCO said, “Mindful of the applicable constitutional timeframes and procedural requirements governing bail, the Office is fervently working with the Office of the Attorney-General to bring the Suspect before a weekend court.”

EOCO also urged the public to disregard reports that it had granted Nana Baffour Awuah GH¢50 million bail.

“The Office also wishes to urge the public to disregard media reports that the Office has granted the Suspect a GH¢50 million bail,” the statement said.

Nana Baffour Awuah surrendered to EOCO after the Office obtained a warrant for his arrest in connection with its investigation. His lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, had earlier indicated that the MP could spend the night at EOCO as questioning continued. Enditem
