Togo’s President of the Council of Ministers, Faure Gnassingbe, arrived in Beijing as part of his official visit to China, for high-level talks on strengthening diplomatic ties.
Footage shows Gnassingbe’s aircraft landing at the airport in Beijing. He then descends the stairs to a welcome from Chinese officials.
A child presents him with a bouquet before he shakes hands with the welcoming delegation and leaves the airport in a motorcade.
The visit at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang will run from October 9 to 16, including planned meetings with President Xi Jinping and other senior Chinese officials.
His arrival comes ahead of the Asia-Africa Summit, in which Gnassingbe will participate.
Beijing described Gnassingbe as an ‘old friend of China’. This is his seventh official visit to the country.
China and Togo upgraded their relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2024, with trade cooperation central to their ties.
