The Accra High Court is expected to hear a bail application filed by former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, today, Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Wontumi’s lawyers are seeking his release on bail pending the determination of his appeal against his conviction and 20-year prison sentence for illegal mining-related offences linked to a concession at Samreboi in the Western Region.
The application was initially scheduled for hearing on August 19 but was adjourned after the presiding judge became unavailable.
However, the Attorney-General is opposing the application, arguing that Wontumi poses a flight risk if granted bail. Enditem
