The Appointments Committee of Ghana’s Parliament on Thursday recommended the approval of three nominees for appointment to the country’s Supreme Court.
This follows the vetting of the President’s nominees by the legislative body for consideration to the apex court.
The nominees are Justice Sophia Rosetta Bernasko-Essah, Justice Edward Amoako Asante, and Anthony Forson Jnr, former President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA).
The recommendation came after the Minority Caucus walked out of the vetting, protesting what it described as a rushed process and inadequate time for public scrutiny of the nominees.
Appointments Committee Chairman Bernard Ahiafor rejected the Minority’s objection and proceeded with the vetting. The Majority subsequently completed the exercise and recommended all three nominees for approval.
The committee’s report will now be presented to the full House of Parliament for consideration and a final decision. If approved, the nominees will take the required oaths before assuming office as Supreme Court justices. Enditem
