The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Thursday dismissed reports of an impending reshuffle of its parliamentary leadership and reaffirmed its support for Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and his team.
Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Accra, General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong said no meeting had taken place and no discussions had occurred regarding a possible change in leadership.
Mr Kodua Frimpong described the reports circulating on social media as an attempt to create confusion within the party’s parliamentary ranks.
He said, “Let me state it categorically. The party has never had any meeting. The party has never even thought about deliberating changing the leadership in Parliament. We have not. So those who are busily peddling lies and trying to create this confusion among the leadership in Parliament and the mighty Minority Caucus will not succeed.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Kodua Frimpong has criticized individuals campaigning on social media for being selected as the party’s running mate for the 2028 general elections, describing the approach as misguided.
He explained that the NPP’s constitution does not provide for the selection of a running mate through public campaigns, adding that the decision rests with the party’s flagbearer in consultation with the National Council.
“There is nowhere in our constitution that says that running mate is selected through contest or through campaign, so the people who are busily urging bloggers to promote themselves, you are wrong,” he added. Enditem
