NPP cautions aspirants from meeting party executives ahead of nominations

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asked prospective aspirants not to engage party executives or structures in any form to campaign until official nominations open for internal positions, according to a statement issued Wednesday.

The statement, signed by party General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, observed that premature engagements not only undermine the authority of the party’s organs but also risk disrupting the careful and strategic efforts currently underway to reposition the NPP for victory in the next general election.

According to him, the directive is in line with the party’s commitment to fairness in the administration of its internal electoral processes.

“The party leadership wishes to bring to the attention of all members and prospective aspirants at various levels that, until official nominations are duly opened, no individual is permitted to engage party executives or party structures in any form of campaigning or soliciting support for internal positions,” read the statement.

The party urged all members and numerous stakeholders to fully cooperate with the directive and refrain from acts that could compromise party unity or the integrity of their internal electoral processes.

The statement further reiterates that the NPP remains committed to transparency, inclusiveness, fairness, and due process and assured it will provide timely updates on all relevant timelines and guidelines when nominations are officially opened.

The NPP has been grappling with internal bickering and wrangling since the party lost the 2024 general election to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The party is in the process of reorganising itself to recapture political power from its main opponent, the NDC, in the 2028 general election. Enditem
