Mobile web Ghana backs Global Hamburg Declaration on responsible AI for SDGs

Mobile Web Ghana, alongside 40 global organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), GIZ,KfW, Smart Africa, and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), endorsed the Hamburg Declaration on Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), joining a diverse coalition of international development agencies, innovation hubs, civil society groups, and tech leaders committed to ethical and inclusive AI.

The declaration was officially launched during the Hamburg Sustainability Conference, held from June 2–3, 2025, in Hamburg, Germany. The conference brought together governments, civil society,
academia, and private sector leaders from across the world to align digital innovation, especially AI, with the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Florence Toffa, Director of Mobile Web Ghana, was present at the conference and participated alongside global leaders in shaping and endorsing the Declaration. Her presence highlighted Mobile Web Ghana’s active role in the international conversation around responsible AI, and its commitment to ensuring that African voices, especially those advocating for youth and women, are part of the global digital policy landscape.

The Hamburg Declaration serves as a multi-stakeholder commitment to advancing inclusive, responsible, and human-centered AI, particularly in emerging markets and among vulnerable populations.

It addresses key areas such as equitable data access, human rights protections, digital inclusion,
climate-conscious AI infrastructure, and cross-border collaboration.

Mobile Web Ghana is one of the few African innovation hubs listed as an official endorser of the
declaration, joining globally recognized institutions such as the United Nations Development
Programme (UNDP), UNICEF, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ),
Smart Africa, and many others.

The declaration outlines five key pillars , People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnerships and calls
on all stakeholders to work collectively to ensure AI advances the SDGs and leaves no one behind.
Our Commitment to Action

In line with the principles outlined in the Hamburg Declaration and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Mobile Web Ghana is committing to the following strategic actions:

● Establishing AI Learning Hubs and Clubs in High Schools, to promote early exposure to AI
concepts and digital thinking among Ghanaian youth (SDG 4, SDG 9)
● Delivering AI Literacy Programs for Policymakers and Civil Society Organizations, aimed
at fostering informed decision-making and responsible governance of emerging technologies
(SDG 16)
● Launching an ‘AI for SDGs Fellowship’, to empower young leaders—particularly women—to
develop AI-driven solutions to real-world development challenges (SDG 4, SDG 5, SDG 16)
● Supporting Open Data and AI Tools for Development, enabling grassroots innovation through
accessible technologies and inclusive data ecosystems
● Prioritizing Gender and Inclusion-First AI Projects, ensuring that women and marginalized
communities are not only participants but leaders in Africa’s AI future (SDG 5)

The Hamburg Declaration on Responsible AI for the SDGs is a globally endorsed framework aimed at
ensuring AI contributes meaningfully to sustainable development. It was adopted on June 3, 2025 at the Hamburg Sustainability Conference, following months of multi-sector collaboration and global
consultation.

The declaration emphasizes inclusive participation in AI design, ethical data use, safeguards against
algorithmic harm, environmentally sustainable AI infrastructure, and responsible global partnerships.
