National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has described the sudden passing of Ernest Yaw Kumi, the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, as a devastating blow to the party and the nation.
Nana B expressed deep sorrow over the MP’s untimely death, calling it one of the saddest moments in recent memory for the NPP.
“This is a big blow, it is a devastating moment for the NPP. The news came today when we were having a NEC meeting. The Eastern Regional Chairman of the NPP broke the news, and it was later confirmed by the Minority Leader. It’s a very unfortunate event,” he told Accra-based Citi FM.
Nana B reflected on his relationship with the late MP, describing him as more than just a political colleague.
“Ernest is a personal friend beyond politics. He was a great guy—intelligent, young, and full of life. The last time I was with him was in Belgium when we attended a conference together. He was truly a rising star in the NPP.”
The NPP Organiser also extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, particularly Kumi’s wife.
“It’s so sad… Our condolences to the family and the wife. I know she is going through a lot right now. We hope and pray that the good Lord grants her the needed strength to carry on.”
Ernest Yaw Kumi’s sudden death on Monday, July 7, shocked many within the political sphere, with tributes pouring in from across the country. He was widely regarded as a promising young leader committed to both party and national development. Enditem
