Mafi Adidome Chief denounces murder allegations, affirms town’s safety and peace

The Dufia of Mafi Adidome, Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V, who also serves as Head Chief of the Toh/Tovie Clan and a senior Divisional Chief of the Mafi Traditional Area, has strongly condemned recent reports alleging Mafi Adidome’s association with ritual murders.

Describing the alleged acts as barbaric, backward, and anti-social, Togbe Agyeman said such crimes are in total contradiction to the values of a modern and progressive society.

He categorically stated that the suspected perpetrators are not citizens of Adidome, although they reside on Adidome lands. “They are not citizens of Adidome, even though they live on our lands,” he clarified. “Perhaps with Mafi Adidome being the district and constituency capital of Central Tongu, it is understandable why it would be the town of reference.”

Drawing on his background in sociology, Togbe Agyeman acknowledged the diversity of belief systems within societies and the right to freedom of association. However, he stressed that no cultural, religious, or spiritual belief can justify acts that violate human life and threaten the moral fabric of society.

“Adidome is a blessed and consecrated land,” he declared. “It is a town of peace, vision, and development. Our leadership is committed to building a future rooted in education, economic empowerment, and social progress, not fear and superstition.”

He added that his condemnation of the alleged murders is not solely based on his Christian beliefs but on the fact that such actions are criminal, uncivilized, anti-development, and ungodly, if proven to be true.

Togbe Agyeman reaffirmed the commitment of traditional leadership to fighting crime. “We know it is almost impossible to eliminate crime entirely from any society, but we must all commit to exposing such elements within our communities, even if they are our own relatives,” he said.

He emphasized that the traditions of the Mafi Adidome people do not support or permit such actions and cautioned against tarnishing the town’s dignity through negative associations.

Calling for greater collaboration, Togbe Agyeman appealed to the state, law enforcement agencies, and fellow traditional leaders to intensify efforts to identify and uproot criminal elements in society.

“As traditional leaders, we are custodians of values that promote unity, peace, and development. I call on the government and security agencies to work more closely with us to eliminate such crimes. We must also address the limitations currently faced by the chieftaincy institution, particularly in the application of traditional sanctions that were once effective in dealing with community issues.”

Togbe Agyeman welcomed proposals by former President John Mahama to reform the chieftaincy institution and urged that such reforms should address the gaps in the Chieftaincy Act, 2008 (Act 759), especially outdated provisions in Section 63.

“To the bereaved families, we extend our deepest condolences. The people of Mafi Adidome stand with you in your grief and in the pursuit of justice. These are isolated criminal acts and do not reflect the true character of our community,” he said.

Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V reassured  the public that Mafi Adidome remains a peaceful, hospitable, law-abiding, and business-friendly community that warmly welcomes all people, regardless of background or origin.
