Giants of Africa co-founder builds 26-mln-USD sports complex in Rwanda’s capital

A multimillion-U.S.-dollar sports center built by Giants of Africa co-founder Masai Ujiri was inaugurated on Monday in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital city, which officials said will help elevate Africa’s creative and sporting ecosystem.

The Zaria Court is located within Kigali Sports City, with a focus on community, sports, culture and entertainment.

During the inauguration ceremony, Ujiri said the flagship 26-million-U.S.-dollar mixed-use complex “is the template in Africa” to create that ecosystem in a new era for African sports and entertainment.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame said that investment in the sports sector is critical for any country’s development, especially in Africa.

“For the youth, we need to make sure that everything we do, simply translates their potential, their hidden talent into reality, and we have to keep investing in them directly but also in facilities that can help them utilize or bring out this talent,” he added.

The complex includes a state-of-the-art indoor basketball arena, hotel accommodations and multiple sports courts.

The inauguration ceremony was a side event of the Giants of Africa Festival which runs through Saturday.

Held under the theme “A Borderless Africa,” the festival aims to harness the power of sport to educate, inspire, and empower the next generation of African leaders, while promoting unity and opportunity across borders.  Enditem
