Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, officially filed his nomination on Wednesday to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership scheduled for next year.

Addressing party members after submitting his forms at the party’s headquarters, Mr. Agyapong urged delegates to disregard public commentary about his candidacy, emphasizing that their decision will determine the party’s fortunes in the 2028 general election.

The former legislator appealed directly to delegates, insisting that the NPP’s path to victory lies in rallying behind him.

“I’m on my knees; I beg you in the name of God, do not listen to what Ghanaians are saying. Vote for Kennedy Agyapong, and victory will be assured for the NPP in 2028. Wherever you go, Ghanaians are crying for Kennedy Agyapong.

“Don’t allow anyone to intimidate you. Party victory is paramount, so let us unite and select a candidate who can deliver,” he declared.

He cautioned them against yielding to what he described as intimidation and selfish interests within the party.

The main opposition party will hold a presidential primary on Saturday, January 31, 2026, to elect a flagbearer to lead the party ahead of the 2028 general election.

As of close of day on Wednesday, three presidential hopefuls, including Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and Kennedy Agyapong, had filed their nomination.

Former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and former Education Minister Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum are also expected to file their nominations with the party. End item
