The death toll from the collapse of a three-storey building on Sunday in North Kaneshie, a suburb of Accra, the Ghanaian capital, has risen to three, according to a top Ghana government official on Tuesday.

Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the mayor of Accra, who confirmed the accident to local media, said one person who was among the two rescued from the rubble died afterwards at a medical facility in the Ghanaian capital.

“Two were initially recovered alive and rushed to the hospital, while two others were found dead. One of the hospitalized victims has since succumbed to their injuries, bringing the confirmed death toll to three,” said the Accra mayor.

According to eyewitnesses, the building, which housed both residential and commercial occupants, collapsed suddenly in the densely populated neighborhood.

Emergency responders, including personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, brought the search and rescue operation to an end on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, investigations into the cause of the building collapse have commenced. Enditem
