The Agona West Municipal Environmental Health Office, in collaboration with the Municipal Assembly, has embarked on a massive clean-up exercise to clear all the refuse dumping sites and drainages in the municipality of filth.
Environmental Health Officer for the municipality, Mr. Mark Dzodzodzi, told ghanaeyereport.com after the exercise that the objective of the exercise is not only to make the Agona West Municipality the cleanest in the country but also to make it disease-free.
He disclosed that the assembly intends to make the cleanup a continuous one to ensure that the municipality maintains its top spot as the cleanest in the country.
The Environmental Health Officer revealed that those who refused to participate in the 2-day nationwide clean-up exercise were later identified by an enforcement team and sanctioned by making them buy some cleaning equipment, including rakes and shovels, for the office to serve as a deterrent to others.
Mr. Dzodzodzi urged residents to be conscious of environmental hygiene and also appealed to food vendors who sell on open drainages to desist from the practice, as consumers who purchase such foods are likely to contract diseases such as cholera and typhoid. Enditem
