Ghana’s U17 women’s football national team, the Black Maidens, will play against eastern neighbors Togo in the FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier next month, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed on Monday.

According to the GFA, the Maidens will begin their qualification campaign with the first of two legs at the Stade de Kegue in Lome, the Togolese capital, on April 12, followed by the return leg on April 18 at the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana.

The two matches form part of the opening round of the African qualifiers for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

Historically, Ghana has been a strong contender in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, qualifying for every edition between 2008 to 2018.

The Black Maidens last appeared at the FIFA U17 World Cup in 2018 in Uruguay and the Ghanaians reached the quarterfinals, winning all three group games against the hosts, Finland and New Zealand before being kicked out by Mexico. Enditem
