COKA defeats veteran Kokofu to win NPP Ashanti Regional Chairmanship position

By Francis Kobena Tandoh

Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA was on Saturday elected by delegates as the new Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the party’s regional executive election.

He emerged from a closely watched contest against former Bantama Member of Parliament (MP) and former Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu.

COKA’s election marks his return to the Ashanti Regional chairmanship and comes as the NPP begins reorganising its structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Odeneho Kwaku Appiah polled 663 total valid votes as against 269 from Dr. Kokofu in Saturday’s Ashanti Regional polls.

The new Chairman expressed his gratitude to delegates of the NPP for believing in him called for unity as the party prepares towards the 2028 general election.

“By the grace of God, I am now the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP. I am deeply grateful to the delegates, supporters, and everyone who believed in me. The work begins now- together, let us unite, rebuild, and prepare the NPP for victory in 2028,” said COKA.

The fortunes of the opposition NPP hinges largely on the Ashanti Region hence many political watchers believe it is only hard work by the new Chairman to reconcile aggrieved party members and the ability to repackage the party will make the NPP attractive to people.
