Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, who is also the Chairperson of the Tana Forum Board, has called for an African-led solution to the continent’s peace and security challenges, emphasizing the need for economic sovereignty, self-reliance, and stronger regional cooperation.
Delivering the welcome remarks at the 12th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, President Mahama stressed that sustainable peace must be built on African ownership, domestic industrial capacity, and the continent’s ability to finance its own security and development priorities.
He urged African countries to move beyond structural dependency, strengthen intra-African trade, and work collectively towards a peaceful, prosperous, and sovereign continent.
“Let us return to Bahir Dar next year and say that the tide is turning for Africa, that our conflicts are ending, and opportunities are being created for all our people,” said President Mahama.
Held under the theme “Pathways to Peace in Africa: Economic Sovereignty and Geopolitical Transformation,” the three-day forum brought together current and former African leaders and experts to discuss security challenges, economic sovereignty, continental integration, and Africa’s geopolitical future.
