EU High Representative Kaja Kallas insisted the bloc had ‘expertise’ to offer on nuclear negotiations with Iran, a day after Washington and Tehran confirmed a deal had been reached, as she arrived at the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg on Monday.
“We have been in contact with Iran, but also the Gulf partners, also our American counterparts to offer help because we have expertise when it comes to the nuclear negotiations, for example. We can also provide other help. And this is what we are going to discuss with the foreign ministers today,” she told reporters.
Both Tehran and Washington have agreed that a deal has been made but the contents have not been revealed. Media reports have pointed to a 60-day ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to the US naval blockade, sanctions relief for Iran, and talks on Iran’s nuclear programme.
Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif said on Sunday that there would be “the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon”. However, Israel has said it is not party to the deal.
Donald Trump posted ‘let the oil flow’ and said the Strait would open on Friday. Iran’s deputy foreign minister, Kazem Gharibabadi said talks would continue during a 60-day period to form a wider deal.
