Consumers of petroleum products in Ghana are expected to pay more for fuel from Tuesday, September 1, 2026, following projections by the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) that petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices will increase marginally at the pumps.
According to COPEC, petrol is projected to sell at an average price of about GH¢16.21 per litre, representing an increase of approximately 5% from the current average price of GH¢15.43 per litre. Diesel is expected to rise to around GH¢17.61 per litre, while LPG could sell at about GH¢14.19 per kilogramme.
COPEC attributed the anticipated price hikes to increases in the international Free-On-Board (FOB) prices of refined petroleum products, despite a marginal decline in global crude oil prices and a recent appreciation of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar.
The cedi strengthened by about 2.39% during the pricing window, while crude oil prices dipped slightly from US$90.41 to US$89.30 per barrel.
Meanwhile, the government has extended its GH¢2 per litre diesel relief measure into September, a move expected to cushion consumers and prevent sharper increases in diesel prices.
The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has also raised the fuel price floor for the September 1–16 pricing window, signaling likely upward adjustments by Oil Marketing Companies across the country. Enditem
