The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), together with other stakeholders, is set to engage Organised Labour on a new pay system for public sector workers, according to a statement on Thursday.
According to the statement signed by George Smith-Graham, Chief Executive for the FWSC, the purpose of the stakeholder engagement is to brief Organised Labour towards the establishment of an Independent Public Commission (IPEC).
“The FWSC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment (MLJE) and the Ministry of Finance, is organising a stakeholder engagement on August 13 and 14, 2026,” read the statement.
“The purpose of the stakeholder engagement is to brief Organised Labour towards the establishment of the Independent Public Commission and to solicit Organised Labour’s perspectives on shaping a fair, transparent, and fiscally sustainable pay system that protects workers while maintaining fiscal discipline,” it added.
The Single Spin Salary Structure (SSSS), the country’s current pay system for public sector workers, was introduced in 2010 to rationalise pay for government workers.
However, the pay policy since its introduction has had its challenges, with a section of public sector workers criticising the policy for failing to address the disparities in public sector pay. Enditem
