GAF begins probe into misconduct of soldiers

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has commenced investigations into the misconduct of some soldiers against a journalist and an eyewitness, according to the Military High Command in a statement late Wednesday.

The statement, signed by Va Arhin, Acting Director General in charge of Public Affairs, observed that the investigations will be thorough and that those found culpable will be dealt with by the laws of the land.

“In line with the directive from the Presidency, the Ghana Armed Forces wishes to inform the general public that investigations have begun into the inappropriate conduct of some soldiers during an encounter with some journalists around Spintex in Accra,” read the statement.

It added, “The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to assure the general public that the investigations will be thorough and those found culpable will be dealt with accordingly.”

Some personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces were seen in a viral video assaulting an eyewitness and attempting to arrest a JoyNews reporter at a demolition of a warehouse on the Spintex road near Accra.

Following the incident, the government, in a statement, condemned the act and ordered the Minister for Defence and the National Security Coordinator to begin a probe and bring the perpetrators to book. Enditem
