The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted company with Black Stars technical advisor Winfried Schafer as changes to the senior national team’s backroom staff continue, according to reports.
Schafer was appointed in late 2024 to support Otto Addo following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. However, his exit comes shortly after Addo’s dismissal, with the FA seeking to reshaping the technical team direction of the four-time African champions ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Further changes, according to our sources are expected, with the incoming head coach likely to be given the freedom to select his own backroom staff.
Several names have been linked with the vacant coaching role, including Slaven Bilic, Carlos Queiroz and Fernando Santos.
The new coach is expected to be named soon and will have limited time to prepare the team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup scheduled for the U.S.A., Canada, and Mexico.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L against Panama, England and Croatia, with their campaign set to begin on June 17.
