The government of Ghana is calling for the immediate release of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.
The Ghanaian government expressed worry over the use of unilateral force by the United States government in clear violation of the United Nations Charter and international law.
“The government of the Republic of Ghana is alarmed at the unilateral and unauthorised invasion of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela by the United States of America and the subsequent abduction of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores in the early hours of Saturday, January 3, 2026,” read the statement.
“Ghana expresses strong reservations against unilateral use of force and strongly deplores such acts that violate the Charter of the United Nations and international law, as well as the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of states. Ghana calls for immediate de-escalation and the release of President Maduro and his wife,” added the statement.
The action taken by the U. S. government, according to the Ghana government, put the international community at great risk and undermine the sovereignty of every country.
The Ghana government further emphasized that it “shall maintain and defend its long-held principled position against invasion, occupation, colonialism, apartheid, disregard for sovereignty and all forms of violation of international law.” Enditem
