The government of Ghana on Monday urged the State of Israel and Iran to use dialogue and all diplomatic channels to resolve their differences, according to a statement by the Foreign Affairs Ministry released here.
The Ghanaian government expressed worry over the development in the Middle East following the military strikes undertaken by Israel on Iranian territory last week.
“Ghana calls upon the parties to exercise maximum restraint and accept the channels of diplomatic facilitation to de-escalate the situation. Ghana further calls upon the parties to reaffirm their commitment to the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of international law,” said the statement.
According to the government, the conflict, if not resolved as early as possible, has the danger of posing a threat to international peace and security.
“Ghana urges the parties to urgently recommit to peaceful resolution of the conflict and to respect the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of each other,” it added.
The West African country expressed its readiness to support a unified response from the international community to de-escalate the conflict to prevent its spread, abate the further destabilization of the Middle East, and contain the unfolding threat to international peace and security.
Israel launched a surprise assault on Friday, wiping out the top echelon of Iran’s military command and damaging its nuclear sites. It has said the campaign will escalate in the coming days.
Oil prices edged down on Monday, after surging 7 percent on Friday, as the military strikes by Israel and Iran over the weekend avoided oil production and export facilities.
