Ghanaian businesses benefit from national team’s impressive World Cup run

Ghanaian businesses and vendors have benefited from selling the national team’s merchandise, following the Black Stars’ impressive performance at the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

In the bustling central business district of the Ghanaian capital, Accra, hundreds of people flocked to the shops around on Wednesday to purchase Black Stars replica jerseys, a day after Ghana drew 0-0 with England.

According to shop owners and vendors, sales have skyrocketed since the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign began, with consumers rushing to buy irrespective of the price.

Sammy Jersey, a shop owner selling jerseys, said that he’s making more money this time than in the four previous World Cups that Ghana has participated in.

“This is unprecedented compared to the previous ones because sales have boomed seriously, and we love the performance of the Black Stars, and we pray that they continue with this performance,” he told Xinhua.

Meanwhile, the streets of the Ghanaian capital are filled with celebration, with people singing and dancing to popular tunes following the team’s success so far.

Ghana, who are making their fifth World Cup, defeated Panama 1-0 in their opening group game before drawing 0-0 with England.

Ghana will play its last group game against Croatia on June 27.  Enditem
