Minister for Energy and Green Transition Dr. John Jinapor has fired the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), Ing. Mark Awuah Baah, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu confirmed on Sunday.
In a post on Facebook, the Government Communications Minister explained that the GRIDCo boss has been asked to step aside pending investigations into the fire outbreak at the Akosombo power control center recently.
“Minister for Energy and Green Transition has asked the CEO of GRIDCo to step aside pending investigations into the fire outbreak at the Akosombo power control center,” read the post.
Mr. Ofosu also disclosed that there has been a major shake-up in the leadership of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti Region.
Meanwhile, the Energy and Green Transition Minister is expected to hold a briefing on Monday on the recent developments in electricity distribution.
There has been public outrage over erratic power supply in several parts of the country, including Greater Accra and Central, with the Ashanti Region being the hardest hit.
A cross-section of the Ghanaian public is calling on authorities to issue a load-shedding timetable to enable them to plan their activities.
The government, however, says there is no cause for alarm as the Energy Ministry is replacing obsolete transformers across the country and that the current unannounced frequent power outages will soon come to an end. Enditem
