Floodwaters rushed through Qinzhou in southern China, as Guangxi region battles severe flooding from torrential downpours brought by Typhoon Maysak.
Footage shows residents wading through murky water, pushing floating debris aside as they move through submerged streets. Shop owners try to carry stock out of flooded businesses, while others use paddle boards to cross the water.
“The flood has brought great inconvenience to our daily life,” one of the locals, Mr. Huang, commented. “We hope relevant government departments can keep offering support, as it is extremely tough for us to get around and take care of daily necessities right now.”
Authorities in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region raised the flood warning to red on Tuesday, the highest level after days of torrential rain pushed rivers above warning levels and overwhelmed drainage systems.
Emergency crews used inflatable boats to reach people trapped in waterlogged neighbourhoods, while local teams inspected river dykes, reservoirs and other vulnerable flood-control sites.
“What I hope most is that donations and relief supplies from all sectors can arrive in Qinzhou as soon as possible,” another local, Mr. Chen commented.
The flooding in Guangxi had affected around 375,000 people by Tuesday evening, with around 130,000 evacuated. At least six people were reported dead and 11 others missing.
Flash floods also damaged local infrastructure, disrupting basic services and adding to the strain on residents and rescue teams.
The storm reached Guangxi after bringing wind and rain to Hainan, Guangdong and coastal areas near the border with northern Vietnam. Forecasters warn heavy rain could continue, keeping pressure on emergency crews across the region.
