The government, through the Ministry of Interior, on Friday imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew at Odomi and 11 other communities in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.
The imposition of the curfew came a day after three people were killed, while nine others were reported to have sustained gunshot wounds following an attack in a community in the south-eastern part of Ghana, the interior ministry confirmed.
According to reports, the incident occurred late Thursday in the community when unidentified gunmen entered the conflict-stricken community, leading to chaos and subsequent gunshots.
Two were reported to have died on the spot, while a third victim died when being rushed to a nearby medical facility.
“The minister for the interior, on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument (E.I.), has imposed a curfew on the following communities in the Nkwanta South municipality of the Oti Region from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with effect from Friday, June 19, 2026,” read the statement signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak.
The affected communities, according to the statement, include Keri, Abrewanko, Abrewanko junction, Nyambo, Nyambo junction, and Shari. The rest are Kromase, Power, Nyakoma, Odomi 11, Bonakye and Nkwanta.
The government has urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, the youth, and residents in the area to exercise restraint and support efforts aimed at restoring and maintaining peace in the area. Enditem
