Israeli forces advanced into the western countryside of Daraa in southwestern Syria on Thursday morning.
Footage shows Israeli military vehicles moving through the area, while other clips show soldiers dismounting from the vehicles and proceeding on foot. A drone was also seen accompanying the troops.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said an Israeli patrol consisting of seven military vehicles, including three troop carriers, advanced into the area after setting out from the Tel Abu al-Ghithar base in the occupied Golan. According to the monitor, the patrol moved through several villages in the Yarmouk Basin area of western Daraa.
Local media, meanwhile, reported that the Israeli force deployed at a former Syrian army position on the Saisoun-Jamla road, where it conducted a survey of the area.
The latest movement comes amid repeated Israeli incursions and military activity in the Daraa and Quneitra countrysides. SOHR said it documented 45 Israeli incursions and military movements in southern Syria during the first two weeks of September, concentrated mainly in Daraa, Quneitra and the Damascus countryside.
The monitor has also documented a series of Israeli incursions in recent months in the Yarmouk Basin and around Wadi al-Raqad. The Israeli military does not routinely comment on individual movements in the area, while Israeli leaders have said their forces will remain in areas seized in Syria.
Since Syria’s transitional authorities took power in Damascus in December 2024, Israel has expanded its military presence in southern Syria and moved forces into the buffer zone. It has also carried out extensive air and naval strikes against Syrian military assets, saying the operations were intended to prevent weapons from falling into the hands of forces it considers hostile.
